Raven In My Life
59
Since I’ve started to work at writing on hub pages as a full time job Raven has been sitting in the forest outside my window. Sometimes chirupping, sometimes silent, and sometimes just plain old grumpy like he’s telling me to get busy.
Today he was out by the parking lot barking at one of my neighbors for having a loud and noisy car it was hilarious especially since they weren’t Alaska Natives and didn’t know how to react to such a big bossy bird hopping around hollering at them. I know they’re in for trouble now though because the woman of the two told Raven to shut up. I wonder what he’s planning in retaliation.
After getting my temporary restraining order against my now ex-husband I was allowed by the judge to return to my home to pick up some of our clothing and things. Walking to the house from the D.V. offices we got about a block away and saw a large grandfather Raven carrying an unopened bag of corn tortilla chips. I stopped and asked him if he needed help and he dropped the bag and then hopped a few steps backwards. My daughter walked over and opened the bag for him, and placed it on the ground, a couple of feet in front of him. He nodded his thanks and we restarted our walk to the house.
Upon our arrival I saw the ex’s sports car sitting out front and I told the kids to stay where they were. I walked over and touched the hood, the car was still warm. We turned around and walked back the way we had come and saw a police car at another house. We went over and told him what was going on and he let us wait in his car until he was finished with what he was doing. It only took a couple of minutes.
The police officer called for back up and we all arrived at the house at the same time. I gave the officers my house keys and one inspected the car while several others entered the house, two to the attic, two to the second floor, two to the first floor, and two to the basement. They didn’t find him in the house, thank goodness, but the one who checked out the car said he must have just driven it there and turned it off right before I’d arrived because the engine was still warm. They reasoned that he must have run when he saw the police cars arriving.
If I hadn’t stopped to help Raven I would never have seen my own help just down the block. Raven is my peoples creator but not their God, he is one of the many faces of God that we know of. He has saved my hide more than once and my children and grandchildren have all learned to love and respect his wisdom and intelligence.
